...Flooding Possible During a Prolonged Heavy Rain Event...
.Overnight through Wednesday, an area of low pressure will
progress from the Middle Mississippi River Valley to the eastern
Great Lakes region. On its eastern flanks, a very strong
southeast flow will develop that will usher very moist air into
the region off the Atlantic Ocean. This moisture will travel
upslope across the area with moderate to heavy rain expected,
maximized along and near the crest of the Blue Ridge. In this
region, rainfall totals of three to four inches area expected.
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT MONDAY THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON...
The Flood Watch continues for
* Counties along the crest of the Blue Ridge, from Floyd County
southwest to Watauga County, as well as Patrick, Surry and
Wilkes Counties.
* From 8 AM EDT Monday through Tuesday afternoon
* Prolonged heavy rainfall totaling three to four inches.
* Flooding of small streams and creeks, small rivers and in poor
drainage areas.
Instructions:
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

...Strong southeast winds expected across the mountains late
tonight through Monday evening...
.Low pressure is going to strengthen over the southeast by
Tuesday, and combined with strong high pressure off the northeast
coast, produce a tight gradient over the southern and central
Appalachians. The higher terrain from North Carolina, into far
southwest Virginia will experience strong gusty southeast winds
late tonight into Monday evening.
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT MONDAY
NIGHT...
* Locations...North Carolina High Country, Grayson Highlands into
the higher terrain of Tazewell and Smyth County Virginia,
including Burkes Garden.
* Hazards...Strong southeast winds.
* Winds...Southeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* Timing...Starting overnight through Monday evening. Peak wind
gusts occur Monday afternoon into early Monday evening.
* Impacts...These winds could down smaller trees and limbs,
especially as soils become saturated from prolonged moderate
rainfall. Isolated power outages are possible. High profile
vehicles will find it difficult to maneuver at times.
Instructions:
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 MPH or gusts will range between 46 and 57 MPH. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use extra
caution until the winds subside.
